About this Work Stream

The Zero Carbon Prosperity Workstream explores pathways for economic prosperity, energy security, peaceful co-existence between nations, long-term wellbeing and human flourishing powered by renewable energy. We invite participants to:

Identify the potentials of zero carbon prosperity
Build a strong coalition for zero carbon prosperity
Develop strategies for moving beyond the zero sum game and promoting zero carbon prosperity in global climate agenda

BIO

Dr. Jiahua PAN is a Visiting Professor at the Carbon Neutrality and Climate Change Thrust, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). His Areas of research include sustainable urbanization, energy and climate policy, and new ecological economics. He also works as the Vice Chair of the National Expert Panel on Climate Change in China, IGS (Independent Group of Scientists, appointed by UN Secretory-General for drafting GSDR2023) member, and lead author, IPCC Working Group III on Mitigation. He was also the former director-general, Institute of Eco-civilization Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Science, member of Foreign Policy Advisory Group, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Senior Economist, IPCC Working Group III, Senior Programme Officer, UNDP Beijing Office. Prize winners of Sun Yefang Prize of Economic Sciences(2011), China Green Person of the Year 2010/2011. China Environment Prize (2016).

BIO

Dr. Jiaqi Lu is an Assistant Professor with the Carbon Neutrality and Climate Change Trust of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). He received a joint-Ph.D. in Political Science and Environmental Studies from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Previously, he also worked at Georgetown University, Harvard Kennedy School, and Boston University. His research interests include the political economy of global energy transitions and climate change, as well as the intersection of governance and technology development. Before pursuing his Ph.D., Dr. Lu was a research analyst at the Brookings Institution, where he worked on energy and climate policy.
